Members of the Forest Area Student Historians group visited New York City on April 3-5th. The purpose of their trip was to enhance the Social Studies curriculum by learning about history, culture, and society outside of the classroom. The 37 students visited many sites of interest with their two chaperones, Mr. Ernest Hartwig and Mrs. Jen Carll. On the first day, they visited and toured the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Trinity Church, the USS Intrepid WWII Aircraft Carrier, and they ended the day by having dinner at Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. On day two, the students visited the 9/11 Museum and Memorial, Grand Central Terminal, the Empire State Building, and Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. On the final day, the students visited Times Square, the Museum of Modern Art, Central Park Zoo, and lastly the American Museum of Natural History before returning home with many memories, stories and experiences to share. They are already planning their next trip to Philadelphia, scheduled for the spring of 2026.
