Forest Area Students Learn River Safety
Last week, students from Forest Area School District received a safety lesson and went on a canoeing trip on the Clarion River. Students in 7th through 12th grade and faculty from East Forest went canoeing on Wednesday, September 3. Faculty and students from West Forest in those same grades took their trip on Friday, September 5. Students canoed approximately four miles during their trips along the Clarion River. The canoe trips were followed by a picnic-style lunch for all students and faculty on the trip. Mrs. Lisa Banner made the event possible by writing and receiving a grant through the R3 Education Grant program, administered by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. In addition to this trip, the grant was used for District 4th graders and Environmental Science students to visit the Tionesta fish hatchery and take part in trout stocking last school year.
