Code-Driven Cars
Students in Mr. Chris Pappas’ third grade and Mr. Brad Roth’s fourth grade at East Forest Elementary School have been building a race course for cars driven by computer code as part of a STEELs activity. Working in pairs, they had to make up their own directions, using resources given to them the first day. They used color-coded tiles on paper and wrote directions for what the car should do at each color stage (continue forward, turn left, etc.). The special car from the IU 6 would run over the tiles, scan the color and proceed according to the directions it received from the coding written by the students. Multiple student pairs were able to complete the courses, and then were able to expand the activity with other challenges. Shown here are: Evan Stevenson (at the board), Gage Walton (seated on left) and Joshua Russ (seated on right).
