Community quilt

For the last Title 1 night before her retirement, East Forest second grade teacher Mrs. Penny Gawelski decided to do something special. With the help of her sister, Mrs. Lissie Letot, they contrived a plan to have the students create an ensemble quilt. Mrs. Letot prepared the squares ahead of time, and then Mrs. Gawelski had the students decorate them during the Title 1 night activities. After the individual squares were all decorated, Mrs. Letot used her own sewing machine at school to sew the white and orange squares together. She finished the quilt at home and then brought it in for everyone to enjoy – what a great community project! Shown here are Mrs. Letot, left, and Mrs. Gawelski, right, with the quilt in the middle, as well as many of the East Forest kids who worked on the project.
