Forest Area 9th Grade Environmental Science students recently traveled to Loleta for an educational field trip with the Allegheny Forest Alliance. Students spent the day learning about the importance of responsible forest management and how different management practices can help create diverse habitats and improve the age structure of forests. They also explored the many ways Pennsylvania’s forests contribute to our local communities through the timber industry and the extensive supply chain that supports it. Another station gave students the opportunity to learn about bird banding and how scientists use this practice to study and monitor bird populations. Students also learned about careers in forestry, natural resources, the timber industry, and related fields, giving them a closer look at the many career opportunities available right here in our region.
