Envirothon Day at Forest Area

The Forest County Conservation District and Planning Department recently visited West Forest for a day of activities organized by Morgan Miller and Donna Zofcin. The program was designed to focus on the environment, ecology and nature in Forest County and to spark interest in the younger students to get involved with the Envirothon competition when they get to high school. Students from East Forest were able to come across the county and participate in many combined seminars and hands-on activities. Grades 3-8 took part in workshops on Macroinvertebrates, Forestry services, Wildlife, Birds of Prey and Ticks and Understanding Soil Layers.  Students in the primary grades took part in activities about the macroinvertebrates and forest wildlife.
In this picture, Mrs. Amanda Olson looks on as East and West students try to capture some of the macroinvertebrates in order to determine the health of the water from a local stream. From left to right, the boys in the picture are Evan Stevenson and Cooper Ruhlman from East Forest and the girls are Aspen Ellenberger, Summer Ellenberger and AuBrianna Overly from West Forest.
