Elementary Activities

After School Program

The after school program runs from January to April at both East Forest and West Forest Elementary Schools. During the program, students stay after school for an hour and a half. They do their homework, get a snack, and take part in fun activities. Students work on leadership skills, take part in 4-H projects, and are physically active. All students receive full or partial transportation home if needed.

Book Club

The Book Club does several things every year. One of the most important is to promote reading. Students in the Book Club participate in an Annual Interscholastic Reading Competition held in the Fall of every year and spend the first part of the year reading and preparing for it. The remaining part of the year, the students plan and execute a fundraiser, recruit new members, and of course talk about their current reads.

Chess Club

Students in grades three through six met to play chess during the winter months. The club was organized by three elementary students. Participants were split into two divisions: Rooks and Pawns. Rooks were the more experienced players. Pawns were rookies or beginners. Pawns who demonstrated understanding of the game were able to transition to Rooks.

Honors Club

Students are West Forest in grades 3-6 are honored each 9 weeks for their good grades and hard work. The students receive awards for honors, high honors, perfect attendance, principal’s list, and many other awards that individuals have earned. The students that earn honors, high honors, or perfect attendance all year long, also earn a reward trip to Kennywood park. The students look forward to this trip all year long.

Reading Club

Students at West Forest Elementary love to read!! The students read books and take quizzes on the books to earn points. The points are used for kids to earn surprise parties and a reward field trip at the end of the school. Trips have included a baseball game in Erie, bowling, a game truck come to the school, going to the movie theater, and roller skating.

Varsity Club

The varsity club gives recognition to Varsity Athletes who have earned Varsity letters through their participation in the High School athletic program.  The club promotes high standards of sportsmanship, academics, and fair play in all high school athletic activities.  Members will also do community service because it is looked at highly when applying for future education, scholarships, and grants.

Drama Club

The East Forest Drama Club performs at least one play each year. Drama club produces a wide variety of shows such as Snow White Lite, The Purloined Letter, The Importance of Being Earnest, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Just Another High School Play. We have taken field trips to see performances of Les Miserables, Peter and the Starcatchers, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

FCCLA

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a national Career and Technical Student Organization that provides personal growth, leadership development, and career preparation opportunities for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education.

Members develop skills for life through character development; creative and critical thinking; interpersonal communications; practical knowledge; and career preparation.

FCCLA serves students in grades 7-12.

Industry Club

The West Forest Industry Club is open to any student in grades seven through nine. The students study the eight industry clusters by means of utilizing https://onetonline.org and by having guest speakers. Additionally, we take field trips to tour local industries, some of which give the students a hands-on experience. At the end of the school year, we attend the Industry Club Expo. The West Forest Industry Club is funded by VTDC.

National Honor Society

National Honor Society held its 57th Annual Induction Ceremony on May 9, 2017. The current members of the Harold Seigworth Chapter of National Honor Society led the ceremony for the new members. Current National Honor Society members are President Andrew Schwab, Vice-President Sarah Humes, Secretary Taylor Johnson, Treasurer Terra Miller and Jailia Guzzi.

National Honor Society welcomed nine new members during the Induction Ceremony. The senior inductee was Kaylynn Anderson. The junior inductees include Steven Barnett, Brooke Black, Stephen Culver, Kendra Gadley, Bryant Niederriter, Lorraine Pedersen, Rachel Stubler and Roselyn Trivett.

Additionally, probationary members were recognized during the ceremony. This year’s probationary members are Christopher Pedersen and Travis Swartz. These students must maintain their grades in order to be eligible for membership next year. Jennifer Lander and Noah Burke served as Freshmen Hosts for the evening.

New members and current members also presented on their service projects. The projects included cleaning up local cemeteries, a drive in support of animal shelters, a toy donation effort and individual litter pick-ups. As an organization, the students host a blood drive and conduct their own litter pick up.

To provide students with the best prevention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, and other destructive decisions.

The elected members of student council help share students’ ideas, interests, and concerns with teachers and school principals. They also help raise funds for school-wide activities, including social events, community projects, helping people in need and school reform. West Forest High School student council organizes food drives, fundraisers, organizes Homecoming activities, and several dances.

The Student Historians is a voluntary , student led/adviser facilitated extracurricular group activity designed to enhance the existing curriculum in Social Studies in the Forest Area School District by exposing students to tangible historical landmarks important in the making and growth of the United States, and to expand the students cultural experience by first hand exposure to diversity which abounds throughout the United States by virtue of our immigrant heritage.

Purpose:

  1. To provide students with an opportunity to visit historic locations throughout the local area, Pennsylvania, and the United States.
  2. Educate visitors and parents about local, state, and national history and the places we have visited.
  3. Expand our knowledge and understanding of local, state, and American History through field trips to important historical sites.
  4. To promote research skills, and the preparation of reports.
  5. To promote patriotism and pride in America
  6. To promote cultural awareness

Art Club

The HS Art Club is designed to provide an opportunity for artistic students to work together to promote the visual arts in the school and community. The club works on various fundraising activities throughout the year to provide money for their annual field trip. All students interested in promoting the arts are welcome to join the club.

Mini-Relay for Life

Purpose: To annually hold a Mini-Relay for Life event with students during the school day. The mini-relay will show them what a relay is like and encourage them to attend their county one. Both students and faculty/staff will benefit from the club. It is the club mission to promote a healthy lifestyle and a hands-on way to show how to reduce the risk of being diagnosed with cancer someday.
